Black Star- Tega Okiti

Today's session involved meeting Tega Okiti, who is one of the organisers of the BFI Black Star season, which is running from October to December this year. She spoke to us about the season and how she got into the industry. Here's the trailer for the season:

Tega got into the industry through internships with the BFI and worked her way up from there. This taught me that internships can be a good way to get into the film industry, specifically the more organisational side. She also gave us a lot of film recommendations for films with black actors in them. This will be useful as the experimental short film we are making has to have at least one black actor in it.

Here are some photos from the session:

Induction Session

Today we had our first session wherein we met the tutors and learnt about the course and the NCFE qualification. We had a discussion about our favourite and least favourite films, which was a nice way of getting to know everyone. We were also introduced to two of the four tutors, Alex Shipman and Anna Maguire, who showed us some of their work and how they got involved in the industry. Alex did this BFI Future Film Academy course a couple of years ago so we learnt that it was a useful way to get into the industry. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone else on the course!
